Makiko Yuasa is a painter born in Niigata in 1988, establishing her artistic practice in Tokyo and Kanazawa.Yuasa constructs distinct painted spaces where anonymous, transforming human figures—rendered as organically intertwined, ribbon-like lines of dense pointillism—emerge against backgrounds composed of vibrant, shimmering metal foils. Through these deformed, anonymous shapes (“Gestalt”), her work explores the fluid boundaries between presence and absence, and the nature of the self. The repetitive, meditative act of stippling infuses her panels with a deep accumulation of passing time.By challenging traditional perceptions of form and identity, Yuasa captures the fragile yet unmistakable resonance of human existence in the contemporary world.
