ARTIST INFORMATION

Hideo Takashima is a sculptor born in Tokyo in 1981. After graduating from Tama Art University with a degree in Crafts (Ceramics) in 2008, he completed his master’s degree in Sculpture at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2014.Using a traditional ceramic technique of layering coils of clay to create hollow forms, he creates unique human-shaped sculptures whose heads are replaced by vessels like jars or bottles. His work explores the boundary between the outer container (the “shell”) and the inner void (the “emptiness”).By blurring the lines between traditional craft and contemporary sculpture, Takashima presents a distinct artistic vision that questions the essence of form and space.
