
ARTIST INFORMATION
Nan-Kai Chao is a Taiwanese contemporary artist known for his exploration of light, material, and spatial perception. He holds an MFA from the Department of Arts and Design at National Hsinchu University of Education (2016) and a Graduate Diploma in Visual Arts from the Australian National University (2003). Chao has presented several solo exhibitions, including Fluctuation Light (2019, A Gallery, Taipei) and Black Water Opaline Stone (2016, Hsinchu). His work has been featured in major group shows such as The Rime (2024, Simple Object, Taipei) and GLASS ART (2023, The Glass Museum of Hsinchu City).
Chao received the Gold Award at the 2018 Yilan Chair International Design Award and the Second Prize at the 2008 Hsinchu City Golden Glass Award. His works are part of esteemed collections including Art Bank Taiwan and The Glass Museum of Hsinchu City. Notable acquisitions include In Front Of The Open-Cut Tunnel (2022) and Complete Right (2020). Chao continues to engage in a practice rooted in material experimentation and conceptual clarity, contributing significantly to Taiwan’s contemporary art and design landscape.
