Kiyoo Ota graduated from the Department of Architecture at Kyoto University and earned a master’s degree from the Graduate School of Engineering at the University of Tokyo.
After careers in architecture and finance, he turned to contemporary art with the ambition of creating works that endure beyond their time. Utilizing technologies such as 3D computer graphics and 3D printing, Ota creates sculptural works that abstract the structures underlying society, architecture, and function. Through the use of optical illusion and perspective, his practice explores and reconsiders the boundaries between presence and absence, reality and fiction.
He is the recipient of the TENMYOUYA HISASHI Prize at the Tagboat Award and the Special Prize at the Akari Image Award. His works are included in collections such as Fuji Television, Haneda Innovation City, and W Shanghai – The Bund.
