Born in Shiga Prefecture in 1999, Sawada participated in an exchange program in 2019 at the Department of Fine Arts, Oil Painting Course, Tohoku University of Art and Design. In 2021, the artist graduated from the Oil Painting Course in the Department of Fine Arts and Crafts at Kyoto University of the Arts, and currently lives and works in Kyoto.
Drawing motifs from everyday life, he seeks to understand subjects as physical presences by carefully observing subtle changes in light and shadow. Through this process, the work measures relationships and distances between the self and the surrounding world, using painting as a means to bridge those gaps.
Major exhibitions include the solo exhibition “Full Screen” at Kyoto Tsutaya Books (Kyoto, 2024), and the group exhibition “Drawing the World Near in Silent Observation” at GALLERY SCENA. (Tokyo, 2025).
