ARTIST INFORMATION
Kanako Kitabayashi (b. 1990, Tokyo, Japan) graduated from the Department of Crafts, Faculty of Art and Design at Tama Art University and completed her Master’s degree in Sculpture at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts.
Using the skin that separates the “self” from “what is not the self” as a point of departure, Kitabayashi explores subtle sensations and disturbances that emerge at this boundary, as well as the presence and relationships that arise between oneself and others.
Combining ceramics with diverse materials such as thread, wood, glass, and wool, she creates sculptures and installations that quietly seek to reveal the contours of intangible experiences and things that cannot be directly touched.
