ARTIST INFORMATION
Born in Kumamoto Prefecture in 1978, the artist began creating paper-cut works independently in 2001. Later developing a highly intricate and unprecedented technique that combines paper cutting with embroidery, the artist has held relatively few exhibitions, yet received the Fumio Nanjo Award at the 14th SICF in 2013. In September 2022, the artist made a public museum debut at the National Crafts Museum. This achievement is particularly noteworthy for elevating a mode of expression once regarded as “handicraft” into the realm of “craft” as a recognized artistic discipline.
