YOD Gallery presents artworks by rising artists from Kansai and western Japan. These creators have mastered traditional Japanese craft, and are reinventing the boundaries of expression that are achievable with their chosen medium. Rio Kawase, who forms the branches of trees and uses the shape of vessels as the form of his works. Masaya Koga’s gorgeous copper works also encompass traditional metalwork and patina, the latter of which is especially effective in giving the pieces a timeless appeal. Stitch Dog reproduces digital devices and materials such as laptops, iPhones, and electronic circuit boards through embroidery.

Gallery concept

YOD Gallery was established in 2008 with a mission to present a new sense of value and expression to and from Japan. It has been supporting local art scenes and emerging artists with new media, including video, photography, installation and others. It represents works sparing no effort or time in expression, which comprise Japanese aesthetic beauty, with a substantial concept and important messages to out modern society behind itself. It also supports overseas artists to stay at our artist residency, providing opportunities for them to experience the unique environment in Osaka city where tradition and leading-edge technologies and culture coexist.
