村田は関西出身の作家で、女性的感覚に満ちた装飾的かつ細密な陶による大胆な表現を展開している。村田が用いる“練り込み”は、粘土の色を1つずつ調合し、規則的な模様ができるように繋ぎ 合わせていく技法である。美しい模様と色が用いられた一見華やかな作品は、実は毒々しさを持ち合わせている。
Murata is a Kansai-born artist who has developed a bold expression through decorative and detailed ceramics filled with a feminine sensibility. Murata uses “kneading,” a technique in which clay colors are mixed one by one and joined together to form regular patterns. The seemingly glamorous works with beautiful patterns and colors actually have a poisonous quality to them.
