高橋 誠

Born in Kyoto City in 1956, Takahashi Makoto graduated from the Painting Department of the Toiyo Art School and worked at a Kyo-Yuzen gold leaf processing workshop. He believes that painting is an abstract entity, considering “form” and “color” as its two essential elements. He views “form” as a window or frame that invites the viewer in, emphasizing the importance of harmoniously arranging the “color” within this frame to create an appealing composition. He considers color expression as one of the main subjects, using various combinations of color materials to convey this expression. By separately constructing colors and then collaging them into a unified plane, he creates an ambivalent or dualistic visual experience. To create an ambivalent/ambiguous surface by collaging separately formed colors, unifying them into a single, flat plane like a seamless inlay (or marquetry).
