Born in Niigata, Japan in 1951. Received his MFA in Sculpture from Tama Art University in 1976. His first solo exhibition was held at Hitsuji Garo in 1978, followed by numerous shows in Niigata, Tokyo, and beyond.
Hoshino’s sculptures are made from industrial materials such as steel, stainless steel, pipes, and bolts. His studio resembles a small factory, filled with tools, welding equipment, and piles of scrap metal. From this discarded material, he constructs robot-like forms using broken springs, cut steel, and twisted components.
His works embody shapes that fall outside conventional function—illogical, fragmented, and strange. Through these forms, he explores the unexpected beauty that emerges when industrial order collapses into chaos, suggesting a dialogue between utility and imagination.
