ARTIST INFORMATION
Kim Dong Jun (b. 1981) is a Korean ceramic artist known for preserving the traditional methods of Joseon white porcelain. Best recognized for his moon jars, he works exclusively with wood-fired kilns, gathering clay and preparing firewood himself. His labor-intensive process includes firing each piece for approximately 17 hours, followed by several days of cooling, allowing natural irregularities, iron spots, and subtle textures to emerge on the surface.
Kim studied under renowned moon jar master Kwon Dae Seop for four years before establishing his own studio in Mungyeong in 2011. Rooted in the changing seasons and the five elements of wood, fire, earth, metal, and water, his practice reflects a deep commitment to tradition, craftsmanship, and the contemplative spirit of Korean ceramics.
