ARTIST INFORMATION
澤田光琉は1999年滋賀県生まれ。2019年東北芸術工科大学美術科洋画コース交換留学。2021年京都芸術大学美術工芸学科油画コース卒業。日常の中からモチーフを選び取り、光や影などの微細な変化を捉え対象を実体として理解しようとすることで、自身を取り巻く世界との関係性や距離を測り、隔たりを埋める手段としての絵画作品を制作している。2020年の《Shape of Light》シリーズ以降、澤田は「光を描く」という試みにとどまらず、「イメージ—あるいは絵画そのもの—」がどのように光を反射しうるか、という問いに焦点を当てている。
Hikaru Sawada was born in 1999 in Shiga Prefecture, Japan.
In 2019, he participated in an exchange program in the Western Painting course at Tohoku University of Art and Design, and graduated in 2021 from the Oil Painting course in the Department of Fine and Applied Arts at Kyoto University of the Arts.
Sawada selects motifs from everyday life, attempting to understand objects as tangible presences by capturing subtle changes in light and shadow. Through this process, his paintings serve as a means to gauge his relationship and distance with the world around him—and to bridge that gap.
Since his Shape of Light series in 2020, Sawada’s focus has expanded beyond simply “depicting light,” to exploring how “images—or painting itself—might reflect light.”
