Born in 1976 in Tochigi, Naoki Ami received a BA in lacquerware from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2000. In the same year she joined the Kagawa Urushi Lacquerware Institute. After completing her study at the Institute, she studied with Yoshito Yamashita, a lacquerware artist. In 2002 she won the Isoi Joshin Award at the Shikoku Branch Exhibition of the Japan Kogei Association.
