About exhibited works
YOD Gallery presents artworks by rising artists from Kansai and western Japan. These creators have mastered traditional Japanese craft, and are reinventing the boundaries of expression that are achievable with their chosen medium. Yuki Nara uses a CAD technology and traditional techniques of Ohhi Ware to combine architectural shapes and ceramics. Yurina Okada makes a base with modeling paste on a wooden panel and transfers printed photo images on it. She creates works which are transcending a boundary between photography and painting. Nobuyuki Ogawa grew up in a family of Kiyomizu Ware potters, and utilizes overgraze techniques, which Kyoto is famous for, to create his works which combine tradition and progress. Yoko Miki mainly uses black and white in her thoughtful pieces. Masaya Koga’s gorgeous copper works also encompass traditional metalwork and patina, the latter of which is especially effective in giving the pieces a timeless appeal.
Gallery concept
YOD Gallery was established in 2008 with a mission to present a new sense of value and expression to and from Japan. It has been supporting local art scenes and emerging artists with new media, including video, photography, installation and others. It represents works sparing no effort or time in expression, which comprise Japanese aesthetic beauty, with a substantial concept and important messages to out modern society behind itself. It also supports overseas artists to stay at our artist residency, providing opportunities for them to experience the unique environment in Osaka city where tradition and leading-edge technologies and culture coexist.
