ARTIST INFORMATION
東京藝大で陶芸を学び卒業後はパリ及び西アフリカ各地に滞在、帰国後に作家活動を開始、今日まで国内外で高い評価を得る。陶土、磁土、時にはガラスをも用いて生み出される小川の作品は、荒々しくも静謐を湛え、大地より溢れるエネルギー・悠久の時間を想起させる。2019年に開館したカタール国立美術館のメインロビーに大型連作「掘りだされたとき」が展観されるなど、近年ますます活躍目覚ましい。
Ogawa Machiko studied ceramics at Tokyo University of the Arts; whereupon she stayed in Paris, then traveled through West Africa for three and half years, was involved in making pottery there. After returned to Japan, she worked prolifically with great energy and soon earned acclaim both at home and abroad.
Ogawa’s works, which are created using ceramic clay, porcelain clay, and sometimes glass, have a majestic scale, overflow with the energy from the earth, and reminiscent of eternal time.
