The artist studied household pottery design in Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, developed skills in accessory design in Taiwan, and explored ways to merge and apply Japanese and Chinese pottery decoration techniques, especially the “drawing with color and adding decoration method”, in Tokyo University of the Arts. Through trials, Wang established “Diecai”, an original technique. The technique’s main focus is the pictorial expression in pottery. Her works are an astonishing overflow of “steric colored pictures” consisting of myriad colors and gentle rises and dents, in which lifelike monsters and fairytale creatures freely roam around. The technique solved bottlenecks in the existing methods and enabled the artist to add solid stories to her artworks through unrestrained pictorial expressions.
