Shigeki Fukumoto

Born in Kyoto in 1946. Fukumoto’s life of art started with oil painting. At the age of 19, he took over the family business of “Kimono” dyeing (Rozome, wax resist dyeing) and stepped into the long and deep tradition of Japanese dye culture. His career as an artist using cloth dyeing started in 1976. His artworks of cloth using technique such as rozome, inlaying, collage etc. represent, while being base on the Japanese traditional dyeing technique, the creation of exploring the new potential of dyeing.
